IPL 2025: Pant, Rahul and Shreyas Iyer not retained, will go into auction

Australians David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis will also go into the auction

The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) retentions are out and the biggest development is that three Indian marquee players who captained their respective franchises in IPL 2024 will all go into the auction.

That’s right, all of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer have not been retained by their respective franchises and will go under the hammer at the auction, likely to take place some time next month.

Reports of Rahul and Iyer not being retained did the rounds for a few weeks but the biggest shock is the non-retention of Pant. The 27-year-old was expected to be a sure-shot first retention for the Capitals but the franchise instead opted to retain Axar Patel (16.5 crore), Kuldeep Yadav (13.25 crore), Tristan Stubbs (10 crore) and Abishek Porel (4 crore).

The word going around is that there were disagreements between Pant and the ownership that led to the non-retention of the superstar.

Another marquee name that will go into the auction is Jos Buttler. Rajasthan Royals (RR) have retained as many as six players but Buttler isn’t among them.

Australians David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis will also go into the auction after not being retained by their respective franchises.
