Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood has already set his sights on the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Hazlewood, who missed the T20Is against Scotland last week due to a calf injury, hopes to use the series against England, starting September 11 (Wednesday), as the start of the build-up to the marquee event in less than two years' time.
"It's just a matter of building for the next World Cup, really," Hazlewood told Cricket.com.au ahead of the first T20I against England
"We didn't finish how we would have liked at the last one [T20 World Cup]. We've got a couple of young guys around now to feed off that energy and it's just about nailing down your role in the team and getting a few wins, obviously against England at home is a pretty big series."
Hazlewood was also pleased with what the fast bowlers had to offer against Scotland. "It's a nice little crop of quicks we're starting to build now, and that's probably in all formats," he said.
"People are putting their hand up – we saw 'X' [Xavier Bartlett] last summer with that unreal debut, so it's good to see … it keeps us older guys fit and ready to go. So it's always good to have them nipping at your heels."
Hazlewood, 33, is the only regular pacer for Australia in the T20Is. Mitchell Starc will return for the One-Day Internationals (ODI) against England, while Pat Cummins has been rested for the entire tour to manage his workload ahead of the Test series against India, starting November 22.
