Even as the impasse on hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 continues, Jay Shah, the new International Cricket Council (ICC) chief, decided to focus on the 2036 Olympics, which are still 12 years away.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Shah landed in Brisbane, the host for the 2036 Olympics, on December 11 (Wednesday), on the sidelines of the Gabba Test, which will begin on December 14 (Saturday).
Shah is being accompanied by new BCCI acting secretary Devajit Saikia. Though Shah, as the new ICC chairperson, was invited to the Sydney Test by the New South Wales cricket body, he decided to watch the Gabba Test. It is not clear as of now whether he will be available for the Sydney Test.
Cricket will be played at the 2028 Olympics and therefore its continuity will remain important for Shah for the next game, which will be hosted in Brisbane in 2036.
India’s stance on the Champions Trophy 2025 remains clear: they do not want to play in Pakistan for security reasons. Cricket Australia seems to be the biggest backer of BCCI's stance against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). With less than 80 days to go, the schedule and ticketing module for the 50-over eight-team show is not out.
