Amir Jangoo, who started his international career with a century against Bangladesh on his ODI debut, received his maiden Test call-up as West Indies announced their squad for the two-Test tour of Pakistan on December 23 (Monday).
The team, led by Kraigg Brathwaite, would also include Gudakesh Motie, who missed the two-Test series against Bangladesh at home. The series, starting January 17 onwards at the Multan Cricket Stadium, will be the last in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle for both teams.
This will be the first Test series that the West Indies will play in Pakistan since their last tour in 2006.
Andre Coley, head coach of the West Indies team was happy with the inclusion of the likes of Jangoo and Motie. He further said that the focus of the team would be on doing well and transforming the learnings from 2024 into tangible results.
“Motie rejoins the squad to bolster the spin attack, while Jangoo’s selection comes on the back of his consistency across formats in regional cricket, as well as his demonstrated high level of competency against spin bowling,” Coley was quoted as saying in a statement by Windies Cricket.
“Shamar Joseph will continue his rehabilitation from injury, while Alzarri Joseph will be unavailable due to other engagements. The squad departs the Caribbean on January 2 and will arrive in Islamabad on January 6,” the statement further informed.
