Ishan Kishan doubtful for first Duleep Trophy game

Prasidh Krishna will also miss the India A’s first game in Bengaluru as he is still recovering from injury

Ishan Kishan, who hasn’t played any official cricket apart from the Indian Premier League (IPL) since India's tour of South Africa in December 2023, is an uncertain starter for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, starting on September 5. Cricbuzz has reported that Kishan may be carrying an injury, for which he will stay out of the first game in Anantapur. Sanju Samson will replace him in the squad.

Kishan made a return to domestic cricket with Jharkhand during the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Tamil Nadu. However, he may have incurred a fresh injury for which he will stay out of the side’s first game.

With the Bangladesh series starting on September 19, Kishan’s selection in the national team will be subject to how he performs in the Duleep Trophy. It must be noted that the upcoming Bangladesh series will be Rishabh Pant’s first assignment as a wicketkeeper in the Test side since the car accident in December 2022. While Pant will keep the wickets, incumbent keeper Dhruv Jurel will stay as a back-up alongside KL Rahul.

Prasidh Krishna will also miss the India A’s first game in Bengaluru as he is still recovering from an injury. Shubman Gill confirmed the same in a press conference at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on September 4. Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav was also ruled out of the event with a hand injury he suffered during the Buchi Babu tournament. The Indian T20 skipper is undergoing treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
