On September 24 (Tuesday), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad that will take on Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai in the Irani Cup. Ruturaj Gaikwad leads a star-studded line-up, with Abhimanyu Easwaran named as his understudy for the big clash.
Ishan Kishan is set to be the first-choice wicketkeeper for the side, with Dhruv Jurel named as the standby, considering that he’s part of the Indian setup. Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Shashwat Rawat and Ricky Bhui are the other batters in the squad.
Sai Kishore, who scalped 53 wickets in last year’s Ranji Trophy, was left out of the squad. Manav Suthar, Saransh Jain, and Rahul Chahar are preferred over the Tamil Nadu skipper as the spin-bowling options. From the pace front, Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed are the pacers in the squad.
Jurel and Yash Dayal's availability is subject to their not being involved in the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur.
“Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal have been selected in the Rest of India squad and their participation is subject to them not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur,” BCCI’s press release said.
Rest of India squad: Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Abhimanyu Easwaran (vc), Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel (wk)*, Ishan Kishan (wk), Manav Suthar, Saransh Jain, Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar, Yash Dayal*, Ricky Bhui, Shashwat Rawat, Khaleel Ahmed, Rahul Chahar
