IPL owners set to discuss ‘Impact Player’ rule with BCCI: Reports

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keen to get the consensus of the team owners on the Impact Player rule

While the Impact Player rule has certainly given young stars a new lease of life, it has also proven to be a thorn for franchises. Over the last few years, Dhruv Jurel, Ashutosh Sharma, and Tushar Deshpande, amongst others, have emerged as beneficiaries of the rule.

However, according to Cricbuzz’s reports, the franchises and the coaching community are largely against the rule, while the broadcasters—Star Sports—are keen on its continuation.

The reports suggested that one of the major reasons why the franchises are opposing the rule is that it is hindering the progress of all-rounders in the country. The publication also hinted that there is a good chance that the Impact Player rule could be removed altogether from the domestic level.

From a player perspective, the franchises are also keen on discussing the suggestion of providing increments for the players on a yearly basis. Amongst the other items of discussion, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are also keen on discussing IPL’s gaming rights, central merchandising, and other business matters related to the league.
