Delhi Capitals' (DC) head coach, Hemang Badani, was extremely pleased with the way the mega auction went for his side. The new head coach said that it was a complete auction for him as he was pleased with the fact that they have a good Indian core.
“We've done a good job. We've got players that we wanted, and have a good Indian core. It was a complete auction for us, and we are really happy with what we have picked. In two to three months, it will be game time!" he said after the second day of the two-day auction.
Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Chairman & co-owner of DC, was happy that the months of hard work finally worked wonders at the auction.
“This year, the outcome has been really good. We were well-prepared, we did a lot of scouting and mock auctions, and we did our best. We went as per our plans and budgets, and we are very happy with the way it went," he said.
At the auction, KL Rahul was the most expensive player for them at INR 14 crore. They also managed to get Mitchell Starc (11.75 cr), Jake Fraser-McGurk (9 crore via RTM) and Harry Brook (6.25 crore) as key overseas players.
Among the Indian players, they acquired T Natarajan (10.75 crore), Karun Nair (50 lakh), Sameer Rizvi (95 lakh), Ashutosh Sharma (3.80 crore), and Mohit Sharma (2.20 crore) on the first day.
The following day, they further strengthened their team by securing the winning bids of Faf du Plessis (2 crore), India pacer Mukesh Kumar (8 crore via RTM), Sri Lanka bowler Dushmantha Chameera (75 lakh), and domestic all-rounders Darshan Nalkande (30 lakh) and Vipraj Nigam (50 lakh).
They went on to acquire uncapped players such as Donovan Ferreira (75 lakh), India’s Ajay Mandal (30 lakh), Manvanth Kumar (30 lakh), Tripurana Vijay (30 lakh), and Madhav Tiwari (40 lakh) in the latter stages.
