The IPL 2025 Auction saw nearly 640 crore of business being done, with big names in Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal all going for monster amounts.
Now, we all know what these big guns bring to the table, but what about the unknown, uncapped Indian domestic players, particularly the ones who have hardly played any professional cricket?
A plethora of these unknown names got picked up by the franchises, and a good chunk of these players have made their way into the IPL on the back of some stellar showings in state tournaments such as the Delhi Premier League, UPT20 League, Maharashtra Premier League, Andhra Premier League and more.
We analyse some of these uncapped players and look at what they bring to the table for their respective franchises.
Vansh Bedi (CSK – 55 lakh) - Delhi Premier League
- Vansh Bedi was an attacking wicket-keeping batter in DPL 2024, smashing 221 runs in eight innings at a SR of 186
- He was terrific while chasing, smashing at a strike rate of 206
- Hammered spinners all across the ground with a strike rate of 193 and equally smashed pacers at 174 SR, getting out only once in seven innings
- A perfect player for the impact player role where he can come in as an extra batter and smash quality runs in the slog overs (16-20)
Vipraj Nigam (DC – 50 lakh) - Uttar Pradesh T20 League
- Vipraj Nigam was the second highest wicket-taker in the UP T20 League – 20 wickets in 11 innings at a bowling SR of 11.2
- A leggie, Vipraj could be a quality middle-overs spinner, adding variety to the DC attack, complementing Axar Patel’s left-arm orthodox and Kuldeep Yadav’s left-arm wrist spin in the 7-15 phase
- He is a conventional leggie who gets a vast majority of his wickets through normal leg break deliveries
Madhav Tiwari (DC – 40 lakh) - Madhya Pradesh T20 League
- Madhav Tiwari is a right-arm pace bowling all-rounder who has come up the ranks in Madhya Pradesh cricket
- He was a part of Bhopal Leopards in the 2024 MP T20 League, picking up three wickets with the ball while scoring 72 runs with the bat
- He can bat at the #6 and #7 position and is capable of scoring quality runs in the final overs
- In addition, he's also taken a hat-trick against Rewa Division, in a match where he picked up six wickets
Pyla Avinash (PBKS – 30 lakh) - Andhra Premier League
- Pyla Avinash is one of the notable batters from the Andhra Premier League (APL). He is one of two batters to have smashed a hundred in the APL
- Avinash is a middle-order batter who scores at a strike rate close to 140, primarily batting at No.3 and No.4
- He is good against spin - Avinash averages 69.33 against the tweakers in APL and has been dismissed just thrice in 14 innings
- His scoring rate of 141 in the middle overs (7-15) goes up to 174 at the death (16-20)
Tripurana Vijay (DC – 30 lakh) - Andhra Premier League
- Tripurana Vijay is a rising off-spinner from Andhra
- He has been a part of the Andhra state team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy since 2023
- The offie has done decently in APL, picking up 10 wickets at a good economy of 6.5
Ramakrishna Ghosh (CSK – 30 lakh) - Maharashtra Premier League
- Ramakrishna Ghosh is a pace-bowling all-rounder from Maharashtra who played for Puneri Bappa in MPL 2024, incidentally led by Ruturaj Gaikwad
- He has done well in 2024, picking 23 wickets and scoring 231 runs in 18 games across MPL, DY Patil Cup and other tournaments
- Ghosh can bowl both in the powerplay and the slog overs while maintaining decent economy
- As a batter, he did well as an opener in MPL 2024, scoring a fifty. He can also bat lower down the order, being a good hitter of the ball
Prince Yadav (LSG – 30 lakh) - Delhi Premier League
- Prince Yadav is a 23-year-old right-arm fast bowler who played under Rishabh Pant for Purani Dilli 6 in Delhi Premier League (DPL)
- He was one of the successful pacers in the competition, picking up 13 wickets in 10 innings with eight of those wickets coming in the slog overs
- Prince has all the attributes of a quality fast bowler: he can swing the ball both ways, can bowl a good yorker and is also capable of extracting reverse swing
- Like Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan, Prince Yadav can be the next big bowler coming into the spotlight through Lucknow Super Giants
Abhinandan Singh (RCB – 30 lakh) - Uttar Pradesh T20 League
- Abhinandan Singh was one of the successful pacers in the UP T20 league 2024, taking 15 wickets in 10 innings at an economy of 7.6 with a bowling SR of 13.6
- He shared the new ball with Bhuvneshwar Kumar in Lucknow Falcons, taking 9 of his wickets in the powerplay (1-6) at a great economy of 6.1 while striking once every 12 balls
- With Bhuvneshwar Kumar also signing with RCB, there might be a possibility Abhinandan once again open the bowling with him, this time in the IPL
Ashok Sharma (RR – 30 lakh) - Rajasthan Premier League
- Ashok Sharma is a right-arm fast bowler from Rajasthan who made an impression in the 2023 Rajasthan Premier League (RPL), picking up seven wickets at an economy of 6.7
- He showcased his skills in the powerplay, taking six of his seven wickets in the first six overs, extracting considerable movement upfront
- Ashok was the spearhead for the championship-winning team Jaipur Indians in the 2023 RPL edition
Venkata Satyanarayana Raju (MI – 30 lakhs) - Andhra Premier League
- Venkata Satyanarayana Raju is a right-arm fast bowler from Andhra who had decent seasons in APL 2023 and 2024, picking up a total of 14 wickets in 11 innings at a good economy of 7.4
- In the APL, he has been a slog-over specialist, picking up 10 wickets at a great bowling SR of 9.4 with a good economy of 7.1
- He has a good mix of variations in bouncers, leg cutters and slower deliveries
Aniket Verma (SRH – 30 lakhs) - Madhya Pradesh Premier League
- Aniket Verma had a breakout performance in Madhya Pradesh T20 League 2024 as he was the highest run-scorer in the tournament, scoring 273 runs in six innings at a terrific SR of 195
- He was unstoppable batting first as he scored 210 of his 273 runs while batting first at a SR of 210
- He is a spin basher who strikes at 190 in the 7-15 phase. This SR goes up to 265 in the final five overs
- Like Head, Klaasen, Manohar and Abhishek, Verma is a six-hitter as he smashed the most sixes (25) in the MP T20 League
Vignesh Puthur (MI – 30 lakhs) - Kerala Cricket League
- Vignesh Puthur is a 24-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder from Kerala who bowls left-arm wrist spin
- He was a part of Alleppey Ripples in the first season of Kerala Cricket League
- He played only a couple of games and went for runs. However, he could prove to be an x-factor bowler for MI due to the novelty he brings to the table
