Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have become the third team after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) to qualify for the playoffs of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League on the back of their clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 16 (Thursday) getting washed out. Heading into the game, SRH needed at least one point from their remaining two games to ensure playoff qualification. They got the point they needed courtesy of the washout.
The result also means both Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have officially been knocked out of IPL 2024. Thanks to SRH getting to 15 points, no matter what happens in the clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), both DC and LSG will not be able to make it to the final four.
SRH have qualified for the playoffs for the first time since IPL 2020, where they lost to DC in Qualifier 2. The last three IPL seasons saw SRH finish 10th, 8th and 10th respectively.
But while they have qualified, this washout has dented their chances of finishing in the top two. RR now have their fate in their own hands and will seal top two qualification with a win in their final game. For SRH to qualify for the qualifiers, they will have to win their last game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and hope RR lose to KKR.
