Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have named Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for England pacer Gus Atkinson for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
The BCCI hasn't made the reason behind the replacement public, but it has been revealed that Chameera will join KKR at a reserve price of INR 50 Lakh. But in all likelihood, this is to manage his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup where he is expected to play an important role. This move has come after Mark Wood decided to pull out of the Indian Premier League last week.
Atkinson was supposed to take part in the Pakistan Super League as well, but his selection in the Test squad for the series against India meant Peshawar Zalmi named Shamar Joseph as a partial replacement. But now he seems to be a full replacement for the entire season.
Chameera, the Sri Lankan speedster, was a part of Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 and 2021 IPL seasons, respectively before representing Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 season, where he picked up nine wickets from 12 matches..
