Injury scare for India as Harmanpreet Kaur walks away holding neck

With two runs required, the Indian skipper walked away holding her neck visibly in a lot of pain

At 61/2 in 12 overs, India were under some pressure against Pakistan, but that’s when Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur stepped out and bailed the team out of pressure. She was the driving force behind pushing India closer to a comeback win after they failed in the first clash against New Zealand.

But with two runs required and one hit away from a win, Kaur had the most unfortunate series of events. The right-handed batter slipped after missing a full toss from Nida Dar and was way out of the crease.

Pakistan’s wicketkeeper, Muneeba Ali, missed the stumping as the Indian skipper was still trying to get herself back into the crease. That’s when she had an unfortunate injury, as she was seen clutching her neck. While it seemed like it was just a sprain in the first instance, the Indian skipper was in a lot of pain as she walked off the field, retiring hurt.

“Too soon to say anything, the medics are looking at it. Hopefully, she is alright,” India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana said in the post-match presentation.

India would be hoping that their skipper will take the field in their next clash on October 9 against Sri Lankan women.
