The word ‘optional’ has been removed from the training session of the Indian team ahead of the third and final Test of the three-match series against New Zealand in Mumbai, according to a report on Indian Express. For the final match, which will begin on November 1 at the Wankhede Stadium, the Indian team will train for two days on October 30 and 31 and no player can skip it.
“The team management has asked the players to be present for two days of practice on October 30 and 31. It’s compulsory and no one can skip it,” Indian Express quoted a source as saying.
It used to be the norm where players were allowed to skip training one day prior to the match. However, shocking losses against the Kiwis in Bengaluru and Pune seem to have jolted the management.
The Mumbai Test is going to be very important not only because a loss here could become India’s first-ever whitewash at home in a Test series involving three matches or more but also because it will most probably dash India’s hopes of making it to three consecutive World Test Championship (WTC) finals.
While Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul drove down from Pune to be with their families in Mumbai on October 26th, the rest of the members will arrive today (27th October) and have three days of rest and rejuvenation before the training starts on October 30.
