Hafeez Anoints Virat Kohli As The True King, Not Babar Azam
Hafeez questioned Babar Azam’s credentials as Pakistan’s best batter after he failed against India in Dubai
Pakistan’s premier batter, Babar Azam, is receiving criticism left, right, and centre after the home side in the ICC Champions Trophy almost reached on the verge of being ousted from the tournament. After being defeated by New Zealand in the first game of the competition by 60 runs, Pakistan were pulverised by India in a six-wicket defeat after a one-sided encounter between the arch-rivals in Dubai.
Former Pakistan allrounder Mohd. Hafeez criticized Babar, questioning his credentials as Pakistan’s best batting product.
“Babar Azam is not the true king. It is Virat Kohli,” Hafeez said on the show “Game On Hai.”
“Look at his performances. He has dominated all over the world. Get out of your PR machinery. We need a performer. You tell me about his one Player-of-the-match performance against India.
“Why do we always remember Shoaib Akhtar’s performances against India? Why Younis Khan is a big name when we talk about the India-Pakistan match. Shoaib Malik has big performances against India.”
Hafeez said that Babar needs to be shown a mirror as he hasn’t been the Player of the Series in any of Pakistan’s recent victories, having failed in that pursuit earlier as well. He asked the selectors to give the opportunity to the new crop, rather than playing the likes of Babar who have failed their nation in the moment of crisis.
“Tell me Babar Azam, the best Pakistani product that has come in the past 10 years. Tell me about his one good performance against India. Babar Azam is not Inzamam-ul-Haq. Inzi bhai used to win matches for Pakistan in difficult conditions.
“Babar Azam has not won a single match against India to date. He has been playing for the past 10 years and has never become a player of the series in SENA countries. In Australia or England, he has never led Pakistan to victory.
“We need to show them the mirror. We need to realise that those who we are banking on are not performing and we should move on from them. Give the opportunity to them who are waiting in the system.”
