India Test batter M Vijay makes return to action after nearly two years
The right-handed batter returned to cricket after a two-year hiatus, plying his trade for Ruby Trichy Warriors in the TNPL
Murali Vijay returned to competitive cricket after a gap of two years, playing for Ruby Trichy Warriors in the Tamil Nadu Premier League in Tirunelveli.
The right-handed batter seemed happy and was enjoying his time in the TNPL and said, "I want to play as long as possible. Just took a personal break."
"I have a young family and wanted to take care of them. I'm enjoying my cricket now, and I'm feeling fit; hopefully, I can do my bit for my team and TNPL," he further added.
However, the 38-year-old was dismissed for eight off 13 deliveries in his comeback game and did not look at ease in the middle before eventually getting run out while attempting a sharp single.
The right-handed batter last played for Tamil Nadi in the Ranji Trophy in December 2019 and turned up for the Chennai Super Kings in 2020. In the last couple of seasons, he has not played any domestic cricket for his state side and also missed the local TNCA league.
Currently, he is playing under the astute captaincy of experienced left-arm spinner Rahil Shah at Trichy Warriors in the TNPL, which got underway on Thursday and will go on till July 31.
