India smashed the highest T20I total by a full-member nation on October 12 (Saturday). The Men in Blue hit 297/6 in the third and final T20I against Bangladesh at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. India went past Afghanistan’s record score of 278/3, which they achieved against Ireland in 2019.
It was a proper carnage in Hyderabad, a venue that produced multiple mammoth scores during the last Indian Premier League. India smacked 47 boundaries in the game, five more than their previous best (42 vs Sri Lanka in 2017). They also smoked 22 sixes in the match, once again the most for them in a T20I and the joint-most overall.
Opting to bat, India lost Abhishek Sharma quite early but Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav wreaked havoc in the powerplay. The hosts hit 82 runs in the first six overs, joint-highest powerplay score for them in T20Is. The boundaries kept flowing from both ends, with Samson slamming 111 off 47 and SKY hitting 75 off 35.
The two added 173 runs off 61 deliveries, going at a scoring 15.04. It felt like Bangladesh would get some relief once the two set batters perished but Riyan Parag and Hardik Pandya were having none of it. Parag whacked four maximums in his 13-ball 34, while Pandya hammered four fours and as many maximums in his 18-ball 47.
India missed out on the 300-run mark by just three runs. Overall as well, Nepal (314/3 vs Mongolia) are the only team to score more runs than that in a T20I innings.
