Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign has hit a bit of a rut before their first game. Their spin-bowling all-rounder Imad Wasim is ruled out of their first fixture against the USA on Thursday (June 6).
As informed by Babar Azam, the Pakistan skipper, Wasim has a side strain injury which will keep him on the bench in Pakistan’s tournament opener.
Wasim, a left-arm spinner and a useful lower-order batter, has been vital to Pakistan’s combination in white-ball cricket of late. Since 2023, he has featured in 14 of Pakistan’s 25 T20Is.
Babar said the team remains hopeful of Wasim’s return in the subsequent matches. “Although Imad won’t play the first game, we hope that he will be available for the rest of the matches,” he said in a media interaction.
Pakistan’s second match is against their arch-rivals India, June 9.
