India secured their 13th T20I win in the last 15 matches against Windies and bagged the series 4-1 in Florida. Arshdeep Singh featured in all five games in the T20I series, and even though he bagged only seven wickets, he was economical, which allowed other bowlers to put a choke on Windies’ free-flowing style.
That earned him the Player of the Series award in only the second series for Team India and Arshdeep credited his clarity of thought behind the same.
“We executed our planning perfectly. My biggest takeaway from the series is to keep my own thought process clear. I don’t want to complicate things. Tried to keep things simple. As Rahul Dravid sir says we are a processed based team so I stick with my process. I don't try to think much about other things while bowling,” Arshdeep said in the post-match press conference.
“The talk is to be adaptable. We have to do whatever the demand of the wicket and the team is. We do what the captain and coaches tell us. Credit to them for the clarity they have given me.”
Arshdeep was calm to a fault and despite playing only his second international series, he didn’t let himself get carried away. Instead of complicating things, Arshdeep focused on his process and that yielded results for Team India.
“I don't know what my greatest asset is but keeping things simple and focusing on process helps me. The way the captains back the youngsters, and the feel of the dressing room is very nice. Youngsters and seniors feel the same. Helps as a youngster to come in and repeat what you do with your IPL and state teams. My mentor and my competition is my dad, he is very economical and bowling well," he stated.
