Harmanpreet Kaur wants India to work on batting ahead of series decider

India were bundled out for 183 in pursuit of 260 in the second ODI, allowing New Zealand to level the series 1-1

After going down in the first One-Day International (ODI), New Zealand Women were keen to make a point in the second game at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. That's exactly what they did as they set India a target of 260 following fifties from their seasoned campaigners Suzie Bates (58) and Sophie Devine (79).

Georgia Plimmer (41) and Maddy Green (42) also made some useful contributions. For India, Radha Yadav put on a show to remember. She not only became the first Indian to pick up four wickets and take three catches in a Women's ODI, but also top-scored with 48 off 64, batting at nine.

None of the Indian batters stepped up to the stage in the stiff chase and that's exactly what skipper Harmanpreet Kaur wants her side to work on as they succumbed to a 76-run loss

"We kept losing wickets in the chase. We will look to build partnerships next game. We weren't up to the mark. These girls look ready and keen to do well for the country. Batting is something that we really need to work on, and if we do that, we can win the series," Harmanpreet said at the post-match presentation.

New Zealand suffered a massive blow when they learnt that their star all-rounder Amelia Kerr would miss the rest of the tournament after tearing her left quadricep muscle. Skipper Devine, who was also adjudged the player of the match, says the other bowlers stepped up well to cover for Kerr's absence.

"It's always hard when you lose someone of the quality of Amelia Kerr. When you are taking regular wickets it helps that you can have faith in the other bowlers available to you. It is about backing up performances like tonight," she said.

With the series currently level at 1-1, both sides will have a chance to win it in the third ODI, which will take place at the same venue on October 29 (Tuesday).
