Harmanpreet Kaur has equalled Mithali Raj's record of scoring the most runs in Women's T20 World Cup by an Indian player. She achieved this feat during her knock of unbeaten 54 off 47 in the Group A match against Australia in Sharjah on October 13 (Sunday). Both Harmanpreet and Mithali have 726 runs in the tournament, having made their debut in the marquee event in 2009.
Harmanpreet's runs have come at an average of 25.03 and strike rate of 112.21, while Mithali scored her runs at an average of 40.33 and struck at 97.31. Both have five 50-plus scores in the tournament. She will have a chance of going past Mithali if India make it through to the semi-final.
Despite her best efforts, Harmanpreet could not get her side over the line against Australia, with India falling short by nine runs in the end. Their fate is now out of their hands as far as qualifying for the semi-final is concerned. They will require Pakistan to beat New Zealand on October 14 (Monday) in Dubai to have a chance of Making it through to the final four.
India started off the tournament with a 58-run loss at the hands of New Zealand but bounced back well to beat arch-rivals Pakistan by six wickets and followed that up with an 82-run win over Sri Lanka. Harmanpreet contributed in both those wins with scores of 29* and 52*. She has been dismissed just once in the tournament so far - in the first game against New Zealand.
