Gilchrist Snubs Kohli, Gill, Picks THIS Indian Batter To Win Orange Cap In IPL 2025

Gilchrist further picked Punjab Kings to win IPL 2025

Australia legend and former Punjab Kings captain Adam Gilchrist has backed Shreyas Iyer to win the Orange Cap in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), choosing the PBKS skipper to top the run-scoring charts ahead of the likes of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Iyer, who was bought for a whopping 26.75 cr at the mega auction, has had only one 500-run season in his IPL career, which came back in 2020. But Gilchrist still backed the PBKS captain to top the run-scoring charts this season.

“Shreyas Iyer is going to be my orange cap wearer by the end of IPL 2025,” Gilchrist said on the Club Prairie Fire YouTube channel, previewing IPL 2025.

Gilchrist further backed Punjab Kings to win the IPL for the first time. He claimed that the duo of Ricky Ponting and Iyer is the combination that could just end up bringing glory to the Kings, who have never won the IPL to date.

“I think the combination of Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer is gonna be what’s gonna inspire that franchise. They’ve worked well together previously [at DC]. And that’s going to be the cohesive gel to bring the ownership together.

“It’s still a very, very similar ownership to when I was captain and it was somewhat erratic at times. But I think Ricky will settle the ship along with Shreyas.”

Meanwhile, on the same show, former England captain Michael Vaughan picked Mumbai Indians to win the IPL, and Shubman Gill to wear the orange cap.
