Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan has breathed his last at his residence in Lahore, aged 89, after battling an age-related illness for a long time. Khan was a Pakistani career diplomat who became Foreign Secretary of Pakistan in 1990 and had two stints as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), between 2003 and 2006 and then from 2014 to 2017.
"On behalf of the PCB, I express my deep condolences and grief over the passing of former Chairman Shaharyar Khan. He was a fine administrator and served Pakistan Cricket with utmost dedication,” PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said in a statement.
“Pakistan Cricket will stay indebted to the late Shaharyar Khan for his commendable role as head of the board and for his services in the growth and development of the game in the country.
Shaharyar Khan was born in the Indian land of Bhopal in 1934 and was the cousin of Mansoor Ali Khan Patudi, the scion of the Pautadi dynasty of Bhopal. After partition, he moved to Lahore and later wrote a book, Cricket – a Bridge of Peace, before co-authoring a book titled "Shadows across the playing field; 60 years of India-Pakistan cricket" with Indian politician Shashi Tharoor.
