Former England pacer Jade Dernbach set to play for Italy

The fast bowler has picked up 80 wickets from his 58 limited-overs caps for England, between 2011 and 2014

Former England fast bowler Jade Dernbach has been named in Italy's squad for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, starting next month. Derbnach picked up 80 wickets from his 58 limited-overs caps for England, between 2011 and 2014. 

Derbnach's opportunities have been limited with Surrey, with whom his contract ends at the end of the season He qualifies to play for Italy through his mother. Gareth Berg, the former Northamptonshire all-rounder will captain and coach the side, while Owais Shah, has been named his assistant.

The fast bowler has over 700 competitive wickets, since starting off with Surrey in 2003. Italy reached the qualifier - a pathway for the 2022 T20 World Cup - due to their T20I rankings after sub-qualifier events were cancelled due to Covid-19.

Italy will take on Jersey, Germany and Denmark between October 15-21. The top two teams will move to the global qualifiers which will be played early 2022.
