Fatima Sana named Pakistan's captain for Women's T20 World Cup 2024

Fatima Sana will lead Pakistan in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 in the UAE in October, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on August 25 (Sunday). The 22-year-old takes over from Nida Dar, who is also part of the 15-woman squad.

Pakistan have made only one change to the squad that toured Sri Lanka last month for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup. Batter Sadaf Shamas, who has featured in seven T20Is for Pakistan, has been brought in place of wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi.

Alvi, however, will travel with the squad as a reserve. Meanwhile, Rameen Shamim and Umm-e-Hani have been named as non-traveling reserves.

Fatima will be captaining Pakistan in the 20-over format for the first time. The fast-bowling all-rounder has led the side twice in the 50-over format. She was Pakistan’s skipper when they pulled off a Super Over win against New Zealand last year.

Fatima has played 40 T20Is, picking up 31 wickets at an average of 30.09 and an economy rate of 7.3. She has also scored 215 runs in 23 innings at an average of 19.54 and a strike rate of 100.46.

Pakistan are placed in Group A alongside Australia, India, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. They will start their campaign against India on October 6.
