Faruque Ahmed replaces Nazmul Hassan as new BCB President

Nazmul Hasan is believed to have reportedly fled the country following the ouster of PM Sheikh Hasina

Former Bangladesh cricketer Faruque Ahmed, who played seven ODIs for the national team between 1998 and 1999, has been elected as the new President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Faruque replaces Nazmul Hasan, who is believed to have fled the country following the ouster of PM Sheikh Hasina.

Cricbuzz reported that the development of Faruque succeeding Nazmul has been confirmed to them by the BCB's umpires committee chairman Iftekhar Ahmed.

“The BCB is currently having a board meeting in the ministry of youth and sports wherein the former president resigned while Ahmed was elected,” the Cricbuzz report further claimed.

Faruque, who has one fifty to his name in international cricket, has previously served as the chief selector of Bangladesh across two different stints, first from 2003 to 2007 and then from 2013 to 2016.

Earlier this week, in an interview with The Business Standard, he had expressed his desire to be in a policy-making position.

"I've served as Chief Selector for two terms in the past. However, I no longer have the time or energy for such a demanding role," Faruque said.

"I believe I could be more effective in a policy-making position, focusing on areas like team development and performance analysis, where I can best utilise my skills. If I'm approached, I'll show interest. But overall, I want to work for the betterment of cricket in all sectors whatever my role is,” he added.

Bangladesh are currently in the midst of a two-Test series against Pakistan which is a part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
