Venue details and weather forecast

The Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, is set to host its first match of the 2024 T20 World Cup. The surfaces in this World Cup have been tough for scoring but this is one venue where the batters might might have a good time.

The weather is expected to be clear, with no forecast of any rain. The humidity will be around 80%.

Average first innings score: 185/6 (four T20Is have been played thus far at this venue)

Bat first / Bat second split: Three out of four games have been won by the team batting first

Pace and spin split: Average 24.9 vs 21.5, Economy 9 vs 7.5, Percentage of wickets 60% vs 40%

Players to watch out for

Andre Russell - The ace all-rounder is having a great 2024. The big man has smashed 677 runs across 25 T20 innings at an average of 48.36 and a strike rate of 205.2. Russell has also claimed 37 wickets in this period at a strike rate of 13.2. He is exactly the type of player you need in fantasy cricket. Even in this World Cup, Russell has scored 45 runs in two innings without getting dismissed and picked up three wickets.

Akeal Hosein - The spinners have done well at this venue in the past and Hosein is coming into this encounter having scalped five wickets against Uganda. Even in the first match against PNG, the left-arm spinner took 1/9 in three overs. Overall, Hosein has taken 37 wickets this year at an average of 20.5 and a strike rate of 16.9.

Glenn Phillips - The 27-year-old didn’t fire in the game against Afghanistan but was still New Zealand’s highest run-scorer in the match - 18 off 18. In 11 T20s this year, Phillips has smashed 357 runs at an average of 51 and a strike rate of close to 140. He has played a lot in these conditions and you can expect him to turn up against West Indies.

Key battles

Trent Boult vs West Indies’ top-order

The left-arm seamer is always a threat with the new ball, having picked up 20 of his 34 wickets in the first overs in T20s this year. Boult had a good outing against Afghanistan, picking 2/22 in his four overs, and could trouble the likes of Brandon King, Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran in the early overs. The West Indies batters are not going to hold back and that will give Boult enough opportunities to go for wickets.
