5 key highlights from Day 3 that has put England ahead in Nottingham
After a poor first hour, West Indies fought with the bat but eventually, England won the day's play to edge ahead in the Test
West Indies’ stuttering start
At 351/5, West Indies started Day 3 looking for a big lead. However, they suffered early blows, slumping to 386/9, still 30 runs behind England’s first innings total. With dark clouds surrounding Trent Bridge for the first time in the Test match, Chris Woakes was a different bowler, picking three of these wickets.
He challenged Joshua Da Silva's outside edge multiple times. Da Silva started the day at 32 off 35 balls but could only manage 12 off 36 balls in the first hour of the day’s play, albeit, without losing his wicket.
Da Silva, Shamar frustrate England
When England were looking to begin their second innings soon, Da Silva and Shamar Joseph kept the hosts at bay with a 71-run partnership for the 10th wicket. It not only neutralized England's first innings total but built a 41-run lead.
Joseph contributed 33 off 27 balls to this stand including a six that took some tiles off the roof of a concrete structure stand. Da Silva (82 not out) later attacked Joe Root to muster four boundaries in a row — three fours and a six.

It is the fifth-highest 10th wicket partnership for West Indies. The visitors were bowled out for 457, their first 450+ score in Test cricket since 2014.
Duckett, Pope at it again
After Zak Crawley’s run out at the non-striker’s end, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope forged their second 100-run stand of the match, adding 119 runs for the second wicket. Their partnership overcame the deficit and put England in front again.
Alzarri gets both set batters out
When England were edging ahead in the game, Alzarri Joseph pulled the hosts back pouching Pope and Duckett in consecutive overs. Under heavy cloud cover, the seamer swung the ball pitching it up. Pope (51) edged a loose drive into the gully region while Duckett (76) was out lbw off an inswinging yorker.
England succumbed to 140/3, leading by 99 runs.
Yorkshiremen save the day
Joe Root (37*) and Harry Brook (71*) steadied the innings for England, batting till stumps in a 108-run stand that will continue on Day 4. Root batted with a measured approach, scoring at a strike rate of 55.2. Meanwhile, Brook was more free-flowing, scoring at 91.03. Their partnership has come off only 142 balls, putting England 207 runs ahead at the end of the day’s play.
