Shakib Al Hasan has not been named in the Bangladesh squad for the West Indies Tests, which all but signifies the end of an era in Bangladesh’s Test history. The all-rounder, who was supposed to play his farewell Test against South Africa, was forced to miss out due to the constant protests in the country.
Bangladesh will also be without their veteran wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim, who sustained a finger injury that ruled him out of the Afghanistan ODIs. Much to everyone's surprise, Najmul Hossain Shanto, who wanted to give up captaincy, has been retained as a captain for one more series.
Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan and pacer Khaled Ahmed have been dropped from the squad while Jaker Ali has been retained. Pacers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam have both returned to the red-ball setup.
The first Test of the two-match Test series will begin on November 22 in North Sound.
