It was finally the day of reckoning for Abhimanyu Easwaran as the Bengal player was picked in India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on October 25 (Friday). Kuldeep Yadav was the biggest name dropped from the squad that participated in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand.
According to the BCCI, he was unavailable for selection for the tour of Australia since he was referred to The BCCI Centre of Excellence after the end of the ongoing Test series against New Zealand for long-term resolution of his chronic left groin issue.
In the announcement made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Easwaran was named alongside Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan as pure batters.
Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant are the two wicketkeeper-batters while six pacers have been named in the squad. The pace attack led by vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah, includes Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
In the spin department, the usual suspects Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will be accompanied by Washington Sundar who picked his maiden 10-wicket match haul in the Pune Test against New Zealand.
Three pacers Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini and Khaleel Ahmed were named as reserves in the squad.
