Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on September 26 (Thursday), has moved on from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and joined Kolkata Knight Riders as the mentor for the upcoming season. Bravo will essentially replace Gautam Gambhir as the mentor after the former Indian opener joined the Indian team as the head coach.
"DJ Bravo joining us is an exciting development," KKR CEO Venky Mysore said in a statement. "His relentless drive to win, along with his vast experience and deep knowledge, will greatly benefit our franchise and players."
Bravo, who was a part of Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL before a groin injury cut short his journey this year, said, "I've been part of the Trinbago Knight Riders for the last 10 years in the CPL. Having played for and against the Knight Riders in various leagues, I have a lot of respect for how they operate.
"The owners' passion, the professionalism of the management, and the family-like environment make it a special place. This is the perfect platform for me as I transition from playing to mentoring and coaching the next generation of players."
Bravo’s contract is almost round-the-year as he will also be with Trinbago (CPL), Los Angeles Knight Riders (MLC), and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20)—three other franchises owned by Shahrukh Khan and the KKR group.
After retiring from IPL in 2022, Bravo was named the bowling coach of CSK in the 2023 season - a year the MS Dhoni-led franchise secured their fifth IPL title. He also worked with Afghanistan Cricket Team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 as a bowling consultant and the side made it to the semi-final of the event, with Rashid Khan being effusive in the praise for the legendary all-rounder.
