Netherlands seamer Frederique Overdijk recorded the best bowling figures in T20 history on Thursday when she claimed 4-2-3-7 against France women's team in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifier 2 tournament.
Previously, the best bowling figures in men's cricket belonged to India's Deepak Chahar's 2019 performances of 6-7 against Bangladesh while Nepal off-spinner Anjali Chand's 6-0 against Maldives women in the 2019 South Asian Games. Across all men's T20s, Dutch spinner Colin Ackermann's 7-18 for Leicestershire against Birmingham in the 2019 Vitality Blast remained the most wickets for a bowler in a single innings.
By claiming seven wickets for just three runs, Overdijk broke all those records for the best performance by a bowler across both men's and women's T20s. Batting first at La Manga Club Ground in Cartagena, Spain, the French batters managed to stay for 17.3 overs but only managed 33 runs with five batters walking back without scoring.
Chasing a paltry score, Netherlands lost the wicket of captain Heather Seigers for a duck, but Babette de Leede (10 not out) and Robin Rijke (21 not out ) dispatched the target in 21 balls.
