Don't know why I was dropped, nobody contacted me: Hanuma Vihari

The India batter played the last of his 16 Tests in July 2022

India batter Hanuma Vihari last played a Test for India in July last year. In his last 10 innings, he managed just one fifty and has a few scores in the 20s, 30s, and 40s as well, but failed to convert it into anything substantial. In his career consisting of 16 Tests, Vihari has batted everywhere between opening the batting to seven, proving to be a valuable asset for India. However, after he was dropped after the one-off Test against England, he says he was never given a reason for it.

The Andhra batter however admits he has moved on from it. "Definitely, there was disappointment," Vihari told The Indian Express.

"I didn't find a reason why I was dropped and it was the only thing that was bothering me. Nobody really contacted me and told me the reasons why I was dropped. It took some time and I have gone through ups and downs and I'm not worried about it now.

"I've put aside my personal side of things and I don't take too much stress about whether I'm in the Indian team or not. There are other matches to win and it is about winning the trophies."

Vihari was also overlooked for the tour of the West Indies, despite India not going in with their regular No. 3 in Cheteshwar Pujara. Rohit Sharma on Tuesday (July 11) while confirming Yashasvi Jaiswal will open the batting with him, further added that it will be Shubman Gill, who has tasted a lot of success opening the batting across formats in the recent past, wll bat at three.

Vihari recently led South Zone to the Duleep Trophy final, after defeating North Zone by two wickets in a closely-fought semi-final in Bengaluru. He made 0 and 43 in his two outings.
