The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced on Monday, December 16, that Daren Sammy has been appointed the all-format coach of the West Indies side. The former skipper will take charge of the Test side from April 1, 2025, as confirmed by CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe at the quarterly press conference held in St Vincent.
Sammy had taken over as the white-ball coach in May 2023, with Andre Coley coaching the Test side. Under Sammy, the West Indies have won the ODI series against UAE, Bangladesh, and England twice. However, they failed to make the final of the ODI World Cup Qualifier, which saw them miss out on a spot in the World Cup for the first time. The T20I side made it to the Super 8s stage of the T20 World Cup, to go with series wins over India, England, and South Africa.
Under Coley, the Test side failed to win a single series. However, their best performance came against Australia at the Gabba earlier this year, when the West Indies became the first side to beat the Aussies in a day-night Test. However, they lost the Test series against India, England and South Africa while drawing against Australia and Bangladesh.
It was also announced that Chris Dehring will take over as CWI chief executive as Johnny Grave's replacement. Grave had stepped down from his post in October.
