The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots succumbed to their seventh straight loss when the Barbados Royals beat them by nine wickets at Bridgetown on September 17 (Tuesday) to claim the top spot in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 points table.
Electing to field first, the Barbados Royals got going immediately as they broke the opening partnership between Andre Fletcher and Evin Lewis with just 17 runs on the board.
Initially, skipper Fletcher (32) and then Joshua Da Silva (25) and Anrich Nortje (22) tried their level best to resurrect the Patriots innings, which never really took off. But against Rahkeem Cornwall’s brilliance, all the efforts by the Patriots remained fruitless.
Cornwall ended his quota of four overs with figures of 5/16 as the Patriots could manage only 110 in 19.1 overs.
Chasing the target, the Royals did not sweat a lot as they just lost one wicket (Kadeem Alleyne) on their way to 113 in 11.2 overs. Quinton de Kock was the top-scorer with 59 off just 38 balls, while Alick Athanaze made 22* off 15.
