Australia captain Pat Cummins rated Yashasvi Jaswal’s controversial dismissal in the third session of the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne on December 30 (Monday) as a ‘clear out’.
Talking to the reports in the post-match press conference, Cummins said, "I think it was clear that he hit it. Heard a noise, saw deviation so it was certain that he hit it.”
Cummins even pointed out Jaiswal’s reaction once Australia reviewed the on-field call of not-out.
"As soon as we referred to it, you could see him drop his head and acknowledge he hit it. On-screen, you could see he hit.
Ultra-edge, I don't think anyone has complete confidence in and didn't show much but fortunately, there was other evidence to show it was out,” said the Aussie captain after his team won the match and took a 2-1 lead in the series ahead of the final Test from January 3 in Sydney.
It was at a crucial juncture of the match that Jaiswal played a pull shot on a Cummins delivery and the Australian team appealed. It was the third umpire, Bangladesh’s Sharfuddoula Saikat who took visual evidence over Snicko sound to overturn the on-field call and give it out.
Before the dismissal, India had four wickets in hand and 20 overs to play to get a draw. However, the Indian team succumbed to pressure and were bowled out for 155 to lose the match by 184 runs and trail 1-2 in the series.
