Corey Anderson fifth to play T20 World Cup for 2 countries

The 33-year-old has previously played for New Zealand in the 2014 and 2016 editions

When Corey Anderson took the field for the United States of America (USA) against Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, on Sunday (June 2), he became only the fifth player in T20 World Cup history to feature for two countries.

Roelof van der Merwe (South Africa & Netherlands), Dirk Nannes (Australia & Netherlands), Mark Chapman (Hong Kong & New Zealand) and David Wiese (South Africa & Namibia) are the other players to have achieved this feat.

Anderson has previously played nine matches for New Zealand at the marquee event in 2014 and 2016 - the last of which came against England in Delhi.

Anderson made an instant impact on the game against Canada, striking off the first delivery to get rid of the dangerous Navneet Dhaliwal for 61 off 44 to bring an end to an excellent 62-run stand for the third wicket between him and Nicholas Kirton (51).

He eventually finished with 1/29 in his three overs, but Canada put on 194/5 in their 20 overs.

Anderson moved to the US in 2020 and played in the Major League Cricket (MLC) the following year. He became eligible to play for his new country in 2023.

Apart from the 33-year-old, Harmeet Singh and ex-Delhi and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Milind Kumar are also in the USA squad for the tournament.
