Former Australia quick Brett Lee praised India’s Test vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah, saying that he is miles ahead of other pacers at the moment. Lee’s comments came ahead of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
“He is world-class. Unfortunately, they had no Mohammed Shami, but I think the backing of Mohammed Siraj — there has been a bit of conjecture around him — but I think he has bowled well.
In my opinion, they have an attack that has some good pace bowlers, but the reason why people say or think he is shouldering the whole load of the attack is because he is so good,” Lee was quoted as saying to Fox Sports, talking about India’s bowling attack and how it is centered around Bumrah.
“He is miles ahead of any other bowler, and that is no disrespect to the other bowlers going around, but that is how good he is,” added the 48-year-old.
Lee, who featured in 76 Tests for the Australian team and took 310 wickets at an average of 30 and strike rate of 53.3, said that he wanted to see Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood playing together in all Tests possible.
“I hate the rotation. I have never been a fan (of it). Test cricket for me, is a test of your endurance, your courage, and your whole mindset. As a member of the public, and as a broadcaster, I want to see Australia’s best XI playing Test cricket every single time.
"Now, if someone is carrying an injury or they need to have an extended break, that is a different story, but if he is ready to play, I want to see all three bowlers playing as much as they can,” he said.
At the moment, Hazlewood has been ruled out of the remainder of the series and was replaced by Jhye Richardson in the squad. After the Gabba Test ended in a draw, the series remained 1-1 after the first three Tests.
