BCCI introduces prize money for individual performances in domestic cricket

The prize money was announced for all the tournaments except for Ranji Trophy which already has the prize money

Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced that all the domestic tournaments in India, including the junior, women’s and senior men’s cricket, except for the Ranji Trophy, which already has the prize money paid by the sponsors. 

The Ranji Trophy Player of the Match already receives a medal along with INR 25,000 in prize money from the sponsors. 

“We are introducing prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all Women’s and Junior Cricket tournaments under our Domestic Cricket Programme,” Shah wrote in a X (formerly Twitter) post on Monday (August 26). 

“Additionally, prize money will be awarded for the Player of the Match in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments for Senior Men,” added the man, who might be contesting for the post of ICC chairman after August 27, which is the last day for nomination.

Talking about the effect of the initiative, Shah said that the initiative aims to recognize and reward outstanding performances in the domestic circuit. 

Shah thanked the Apex Council of the BCCI ‘for their unwavering support’ in this endeavour. “Together, we are fostering a more rewarding environment for our cricketers. Jai Hind,” Shah ended his post.
