The Women’s Premier League (WPL)’s retention deadline has been extended from October 15 to November 7, according to a report published by Cricbuzz.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) initially sealed October 15 as the last date to finalise the retention list for all five franchises. The decision was taken on October 15 and communicated to all stakeholders by the BCCI on the same day.
According to the retention process, each team must have a squad of no more than 18 members, including no more than six overseas players. However, teams can choose to release as many players as they want and then stack up the squad in a mini-auction.
The purse for the mini-auction has now been increased from 13.5 crore Rupees per franchise in the 2024 season to 15 crore Rupees for the 2025 WPL season. Initially, in the 2023 edition, the purse for each franchise during the auction was Rupees 12 cr.
Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and UP Warriorz are the five teams.
Smriti Mandhana-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions while Harmanpreet Kaur guided Mumbai Indians to victory in the inaugural season of the competition.
