History has been scripted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai as for the first time since 2000, 8 or more wickets have fallen to pace in an innings at the venue in Tests.
The Bangladesh seamers accounted for 9 out of the 10 Indian wickets to fall, making it the first instance since 1979 of pacers taking 9+ wickets in an innings at Chepauk.
This is only the sixth instance in Chennai’s history that 9 or more wickets in an innings have been taken by fast bowlers. Four of the previous five instances were courtesy West Indies.

Before this Test, since the start of 2000, South Africa in 2008 and Australia in 2013 were the only other sides to take 7+ wickets through pace in an innings at Chepauk.

Hasan Mahmud (5), Taskin Ahmed (3) and Nahid Rana (1) were responsible for the record-breaking showing. This historic showing came on the back of Bangladesh pacers taking all 10 wickets in an innings for the first time ever in the second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, a series that the Tigers won 2-0.
Overall, this is the sixth time in Bangladesh’s Test history that pacers have taken 9+ wickets in a single innings.
