Follow UsThe Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is hopeful of hosting South Africa for a two-match Test series, scheduled to start on October 21 according to the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Future Tours Program (FTP) calendar for the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
"We are hopeful that the tour will commence as per schedule and we will officially announce it in the coming days," Cricbuzz quoted a BCB official as saying.
The two matches of this series, if it happens, would be played at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka and the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram respectively.
Earlier, Cricket South Africa (CSA) had decided to get in a huddle with the South Africa Cricketers’ Association (SACA) to seek an opinion on whether or not it would become the first team to tour Bangladesh after a bloody student-led protest ousted the seating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and saw deaths of nearly 300 people.
In the wake of the protests, the ICC shifted the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Thus, this tour by the South African team could restart international cricket in Bangladesh. The last international match played in Bangladesh by the senior men’s team was against Sri Lanka in April 2024.
Bangladesh will tour India to play two Tests and three T20Is with the first Test starting on September 18 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. South Africa will start their three-match ODI series against the Afghans on the same day in UAE.
