Bangladesh fan Robi deported back to his country after assault allegations

The fan alleged that he was assaulted during Day 1 of the Kanpur Test, but later retracted his statement

Bangladesh fan Robi-ul Islam, who alleged that he was assaulted by Indian fans on Day 1 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur, was deported to his country on September 28 (Saturday). This was done after he was found in India on a medical visa.

The fan, popularly known as Robi Tiger, has been suffering from metastatic cancer. It came to light after he was found unconscious outside the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur at the end of Day 1.

“He was found gasping for breath when he met a constable. He became unconscious before we could speak to him,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Harish Chander told PTI.

He was taken to a private hospital in the city, where it was discovered that he had been suffering from cancer. Robi also retracted his earlier version of the altercation with Indian fans.

“I fell ill, and the police brought me to the hospital. Now I am feeling much better,” Ravi said in a video clip issued through social media.

Since watching a match by obtaining a medical visa is equal to breaking the law, he was sent to Delhi from Kanpur via a flight through Chakeri Airport. From Delhi, he went to Bangladesh.

According to officials, “Robi had reached Kanpur on Thursday night. He had to sleep on the street along with labourers. He stayed at a hotel in Kanpur on Friday night.”
