Bangladesh confirm Super Eights berth with convincing win over Nepal

For the first time in the T20 World Cup, the Tigers have won three matches in a single campaign

Bangladesh defeated Nepal in yet another low-scoring match in St Vincent to become the final team to qualify for the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup 2024. Coming into the match, all Bangladesh needed was to register a win to make it through, and they have done that. As a result, what happens in the Netherlands vs Sri Lanka tie becomes irrelevant.

Bangladesh started the tournament with a win over Sri Lanka in Dallas but then succumbed to a four-run loss against South Africa in New York, in a match many felt they should have won. However, they bounced back to register a 25-run win over the Netherlands and now have defeated Nepal by 21 runs.

Bangladesh put up 106 against Nepal, which is the lowest total successfully defended in a T20 World Cup. Tanzim Hasan Sakib led the way for them with 4/7, which included as many as 21 dot balls.

This is also the first time Bangladesh have won three matches at the T20 World Cup. Nepal, on the other hand, end the campaign without a win, despite being in control for most part of the match against South Africa and now against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh will join India, Australia and Afghanistan in Group 1 of the Super Eights. They will begin their campaign in the next round against Australia on June 20 (Thursday).

Teams in the Super Eights: India, Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, USA, England, South Africa
