With an eight-wicket loss in the third One-Day International (ODI) against Pakistan in Perth on November 10 (Sunday), Australia have succumbed to their first series loss at home in five years. The last time Australia lost an ODI bilateral series at home was when a Virat Kohli-led side won 2-1 in January 2019.
Moreover, Mohammad Rizwan, in his first series Pakistan's white-ball captain, has led his side to their first ODI series win in Australia since 2002.
The series saw the return of some of Australia's big guns, including skipper Pat Cummins, who played in the first two matches. Australia won the first ODI in Melbourne by just two wickets, nearly making a meal of the 204-run target. Pakistan did well to bounce back in the second ODI in Adelaide, claiming a nine-wicket victory after bowling the opposition out for just 163.
However, Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith and Josh Hazlewood were among the players rested for the series decider in Perth as Pakistan completed an easy win in the end.
The two sides will now engage in a three-match T20 International (T20I) series starting November 14 (Thursday) in Brisbane.
