History was scripted at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh, Scotland, as Australia registered the highest-ever powerplay score by a full-member in T20I history.
Thanks to an unbelievable blitzkrieg from the duo of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh, Australia got to 113/1 at the end of the powerplay, making it the highest-ever powerplay score in T20Is by a full-member.
Prior to the encounter today, South Africa (102/0 vs West Indies in 2023) were the only other full member to cross the 100-run mark in the powerplay in T20Is.
The highest-ever powerplay score in T20I history, however, belongs to Romania, who scored 116/0 versus Serbia in just 5.4 overs back in 2021.
The record was made possible by Head, who scored the joint-fastest T20I fifty for Australia (17 balls), and Marsh, who took 30 runs off one over bowled by Jack Jarvis. While Marsh departed for 39 (12), Head registered 80 off 25 balls.
