AUS vs SCO: Josh Inglis smashes fastest T20I century for an Australian

Australian wicketkeeper broke the long-standing national record for fastest T20I century, getting past Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch

Josh Inglis hit back-to-back sixes against Brad Currie in the 17th over of the Australian innings against Scotland on Friday (September 6), at the Grange in Edinburgh, to reach his second T20I century in just 43 balls. This meant that the Australian wicketkeeper broke the long-standing national record for fastest T20I century. Inglis, alongside former captain Aaron Finch and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, had earlier scored a century in 47 balls.

Joint fastest T20I century by wicket-keeper batter

The 29-year-old also equalled the South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock’s record for the fastest T20I century by a designated wicketkeeper. De Kock had smashed a 43-ball ton against West Indies in Centurion in 2023.

First Century by an Australian Wicketkeeper-Batter

Inglis, who also smashed the second-fastest fifty (20 balls) in Edinburgh before going on to convert into a hundred, became the first wicketkeeper-batter from Australia to score a T20I century. Inglis had scored a century against India in late 2023, but he was not the designated wicketkeeper for that game. Matthew Wade, the captain of the team on the tour, kept wickets.

Multiple tons by Australians in T20Is

Inglis, who was born in Yorkshire, England and started playing for Western Australia in 2015, has now become only the third Australian after Maxwell and Finch to score more than one century in T20 internationals.
