Arshdeep registers career-best figures bowling 11.2 overs unchanged

The left-arm pacer finished with figures of 9/90 in the match to floor India B in the Duleep Trophy 2024

Arshdeep Singh bowled 11.2 overs unchanged against India B to finish with figures of 6/40, his best figures in first-class cricket. The India D bowler had picked up just one five-wicket haul in the longest format, which came in the Ranji Trophy game against Tripura in Delhi in 2022. The left-arm pacer finished with figures of 9/90, which is also his best match figures at the first-class level.

His partner-in-crime on the day, Vidarbha pacer Aditya Thakare, who also bowled 11 overs unchanged, picked up the remaining four wickets to fall as India D registered a comfortable 257-run victory in the Duleep Trophy 2024 in Anantapur. Arshdeep finishes with 13 wickets in the tournament.

In pursuit of 373, India B were bundled out for just 115, with Nitish Kumar Reedy top-scoring with an unbeaten 40. Suryakumar Yadav, who managed just five in the first innings, slammed a couple of sixes on his way to a 10-ball 16 but was eventually undone by Arshdeep for the second time in the match.

With this win, India D registered their first win of the Duleep Trophy but will finish at the bottom of the points table with six points from three matches. They lost their first match of the competition against India C by four wickets and followed that up with a crushing 186-run loss against India A.

Arshdeep has played very few Ranji Trophy matches recently, largely due to his international commitments. He had a stint in the County Championship with Kent last year, where he picked up 13 wickets at 41.76 in five matches.

The 25-year-old was recently part of India's triumphant T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, where he was the joint-highest wicket-taker for his side with 17 scalps at 12.64. Overall, he has played 54 T20 Internationals (T20I) for India, picking up 83 wickets. In his eight One-Day Internationals (ODI), he has struck on 12 occasions.
