Archie Vaughan, son of former England captain Michael, is set to make his Under-19 Test debut in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. He has been named in the squad along with Rocky Flintoff, son of former all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. The 14-member squad also consists of Jayden Denly, Joe's nephew, and Rehan Ahmed's younger brother Farhan.
Archie recently signed a professional deal with Somerset, although he has yet to make his debut for them. He has been part of the County's academy since 2020. He played a superb hand at the age-group level last week, slamming 85 off 83 deliveries in a warm-up match against the England Under-19 ODI squad, for whom Flintoff top-scored with 106.
Vaughan and Flintoff senior played 18 Tests together and could see their children begin their international careers at the age-group level in the two Youth Tests at Wormsley (July 8-11) and Cheltenham (July 16-19).
Hamza Shaikh, who led England in the Youth Test against Australia last year, has already led the likes of Chris Woakes and Jake Lintott while turning up for Warwickshire's second XI on more than one occasion. Sheikh, who has played nine 50-over matches for Warwickshire, is also set to feature against the visiting West Indies ahead of their Test series against England.
"They've helped me and given me more confidence in my leadership on and off the field, advising on bowling options and field placements," Shaikh told Warwickshire's website.
"I like to think I'm a fairly calm guy, and captaincy doesn't faze me. I'm looking forward to the challenge and hopefully coming away with a series win."
England U-19s Squad: Hamza Shaikh (c), Farhan Ahmed, Charlie Brand, Jack Carney, Jaydn Denly, Rocky Flintoff, Kesh Fonseka, Alex French, Alex Green, Eddie Jack, Freddie McCann, Harry Moore, Noah Thain, Archie Vaughan.
