As India eye getting their hands on the Women’s T20 World Cup trophy for the first time ever, one individual integral to their charge will be Deepti Sharma.
Deepti has always been someone with a very high ceiling, and as she nears her peak, the 26-year-old is starting to realize her full potential.
Last week, The London Spirit Women won The Hundred for the first time ever, and no one was more integral to their success than Deepti, who proved to be the best all-rounder in the competition, smashing 212 runs at an average of 212.00 with the bat while picking eight wickets at an economy of 6.85.
Fittingly, she hit the winning runs for the Spirit, sealing the title in style with a maximum.
Speaking on the sidelines on CEAT Cricket Rating Awards, the 26-year-old spoke about how she enjoys being an all-rounder.
“I have always believed in myself as an all-rounder. I like to contribute to the team and always want to be the match-winner,” she said, reported The Statesman.
“I like to grab the opportunities that come my way.”
Deepti was on the winning side in The Hundred, but she didn’t enjoy the same luck in the Asia Cup, with India losing to Sri Lanka in the final.
The defeat was a tough pill to swallow for the Women in Blue, but Deepti insisted that the entire group has learnt a lot from the experience.
“We played really good cricket throughout the tournament, but we couldn’t make it,” she said.
“We have learnt a lot from that experience,” she added.
Speaking at the same event, the all-rounder also credited the BCCI for uplifting women’s cricket in the country and for bringing it to a level where players are comfortably able to make a living out of it.
“The match fees are equal, and the BCCI looks after us well,” Deepti said.
“The WPL has also started, and we are doing well. We want to excel in everything. Auction plays a huge role, it encourages young players and also their families.”
