Following scores of 142, 233 and 47 in the Ranji Trophy, Shreyas Iyer slammed an unbeaten ton in the first round of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. The Mumbai skipper finished unbeaten on 130 off just 57 deliveries against Goa in Hyderabad, with 11 fours and 10 sixes punctuating his innings. His knock helped Mumbai to 250/4, and in the end, they won the match by 26 runs. Iyer came in to bat after just seven deliveries when opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi was dismissed by Shubham Tari for six.
This knock comes at the right time for Iyer, who will be up for grabs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25. Despite leading Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the title last season, the franchise decided not to retain their skipper.
The Mumbai batter has set his base price at INR 2 crore and will be part of the marquee set 1.
This was Iyer's third century in T20 cricket. His previous two hundreds came against Madhya Pradesh (103*) and Sikkim (147) in 2019. His 147 was the highest T20 score by an Indian batter, until it was broken by Tilak Varma earlier today (November 23), when he slammed 151* against Meghalaya in Rajkot. Moreover, Iyer also has 36 fifties to his name.
